This Video "4 Ring In The New Year" is from The 2025 New Year Showcase
This showcase is from a New Years Eve concert on December 31, 2024.
The Chromaphone Gongs were ringing in the New Year!
This showcase starts with the Chromaphone and the Videograph and ends with a series of Lumiano Performances
The Chromaphone is played by striking the chrome gongs to experience the sounds that they produce. Some of the gongs are amplified and the signals are sent to an oscilloscope, the waveforms are captured with a camera and converted to video which is fed into a key which has the Videograph as a base image. In some of the videos, recordings of the Chromaphone and Videograph Performances are presented together to provide a better view of the designs that come from the Videograph as the gongs sound. While one can hear the complex harmonics and changes of timbre, it is another thing to see them as well and to have those waveforms influence animated images. This theme of the concert is to provide the recipient with feelings of bliss and rejuvenation to relieve the stress of life and rejuvinatoe the immune and nervous system. Some of the recordings are silent and designed for meditation and for listening with the minds's ear as the vibrating waveforms develop. Lightlines, a sound responsive neon sculpture is shown in some of the recordings, it too responds to the vibrations in the room as gongs sound to Ring In The New Year!
The Lumano, a prepared piano that lights up a matrix of 88 lights as the keys are played, has 6 special notes that light lamps in organ tubes and 6 special notes that turn pinwheels, all of these are animated by the musician when playing the Lumiano. Each of the 88 notes on The Lumiano is assigned to each of the 88 constellations, the High notes are in the northern hemisphere, the low notes are in the southern hemisphere and the zodiac runs thru the middle. A sky globe sits on the piano to help inspire how clusters on notes turn into constellations. When composing music for the l
Lumiano, the plan is to also create visual stories where lights travel around the matrix sky creating visual effects which may not necessarily sound traditionally harmonic.
These performances were recorded live as the New Year was celebrated across the USA between 12 Midnight EST and 12 Midnight PST.
The Chromaphone, Videograph and Lumiano were played by William Laziza.
This piece is called "Chromaphone 2 Red"
These videos show some different views of the Chromaphone and the Lumiano. They are meant to be played together with the sounds from the Lumiano complimenting the Chromaphone. Use two separate windows and play a different video on each screen. Adjust the volume to suit.
This piece is called "Lumiano9 Constellations in the Dark"
